Poet Edward Hirsch Visits Lone Star College-Montgomery for Poetry Reading

To kick-off National Poetry Month,
the Writers in Performance series welcomes celebrated poet and president of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, Edward Hirsch, to read excerpts from his latest book Living Fire: New and Selected Poems, on Thursday, April 8, at 7 p.m., in the Lone Star College-Montgomery Library (Building F).

Hirsch has been the president of the Guggenheim Foundation since 2002. He is the author of eight books of poetry, three books of non-fiction, and numerous essays that have been published in The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, and The Paris Review. His poetry work has won him several awards, including the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Lavan Younger Poets Award from the Academy of American Poets, and the Delmore Schwartz Memorial Award from New York University. His latest book, which was published just this year, is a collection of more than 100 poems, drawn from his lifetime of writing.

The goal of the Writers in Performance series is to bring thought-provoking literature and cultural diversity to the campus of LSC-Montgomery and the surrounding community. The series' events are made possible by the partnership between the Montgomery County Literary Arts Council, LSC-Montgomery Library, the Conroe Commission on the Arts and Culture, Good Books in the Woods, LSC-Montgomery's Academy for Lifelong Learning, and SWIRL, LSC-Montgomery's magazine of student art and writing.
