Rick Steves - Travel as a Political Act
Hear the insights of travel writer, public television host, and Seattle businessman Rick Steves when he visits the campus to discuss the importance of travel in gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation for different cultures. Join us as we explore Travel as a Political Act during Steves' November 4th appearance at Lone Star College-CyFair. ART 111 - Center for the Arts Main Stage
His classes have helped millions of Americans not only enjoy maximum travel thrills per mile, minute, and euro, but become better citizens of our planet. Rick shares how the other 96 percent of humanity sees our nation and explores how his social activism has grown naturally out of his travel experiences.
Rick Steves grew up in Edmonds, Washington. He studied at the University of Washington where he received degrees in Business Administration and European History. But his real education came in Europe. Since 1973 he's spent 120 days a year in Europe. Having spent a third of his adult life living out of a suitcase in Europe has shaped his thinking. Today he employs 72 people at his Edmonds-based company, Europe Through the Back Door, where he produces over 50 books on European travel, the popular Rick Steves' Europe public television series, a weekly hour-long public radio show which airs all over the USA, and a weekly column syndicated by the Chicago Tribune.
View "The Magic of Travel" video below, part of Rick Steves' Travel as a Political Act presentation. Read excerpts from the book at Steves' website. Then mark your calendar for the free event on November 4 at Lone Star College - CyFair. Steves' campus visit is sponsored by the Lone Star College-CyFair Branch Friends of the Library.
