Nonfiction Book Club
Mitchell Library's Nonfiction Book Club will discuss Trials of the Earth: The True Story of a Pioneer Woman.  This autobiographical work is the story of Mary Mann Hamilton (1866-1936), a woman who led a hardscrabble life upon settling in the Mississippi Delta.  At various times, she ran a boarding house and a logging camp. She persevered through many life-threatening events, including floods, tornadoes, and fires; and she dealt stoically with the tragic death of two of her children.

Come to a special presentation by Genealogy Librarian Carl Smith that covers jumping into the new and wild world of Genetic Genealogy. Come learn about the different DNA tests to choose from, how to compare between DNA testing companies, and what DNA can (and can’t) do to help you with your tricky genealogy problems. Visiting professor discusses the American Civil War at LSC-Kingwood
Veteran’s Day is a day to reflect on the military men and women who sacrificed and fought for the country’s freedom. At Lone Star College-Kingwood, students, employees and the community are invited to presentation regarding the American Civil War and its Union veterans. Dr. Brian Jordan, history professor at Sam Houston State University, will discuss his widely-praised book, “Marching Home: Union Veterans and Their Unending Civil War”. This book was the runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize in 2015. The talk will take place on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Student Conference Center (SCC).
