Japanese Culture Celebration
Wednesday, October 5, 2016, 6:30 PM - 7:30:00 PM
Join us for a celebration of Japanese culture.  The Woodlands High School Soran Dance troupe will perform Japanese dances.  Members of The Woodlands High School Japanese Club will share their experiences about traveling to Japan.  Attendees can learn how to do origami, have their name written in Japanese with brush paint, and play Fukuwarai, a popular Japanese game.  Light refreshments will be provided.  We hope to see you there!

Dr. Abbie Grubb, Historian & Instructor of History, will present a talk on the subjects and events mentioned in the 2016 Gulf Coast Reads selection, The Train to Crystal City. Dr Grubb will present a overview of the WWII experience for "enemy aliens" like the Germans and Japanese Americans mentioned in the book. Much of the talk would be about Japanese American internment, but I would also include bits of our local history from the time as well as the military service of Japanese Americans.
