Fun4Seniors: Waugh Bridge Bat Colony Pontoon Boat Tour
Fun4Seniors will depart from Kingwood Branch Library to enjoy a Pontoon Boat Tour to the Waugh Bridge Bat Colony near downtown Houston. The cost is $15 per person and dinner is on your own at Humble City Cafe. The cost must be prepaid within one week of registration and is nonrefundable. The trip is limited to 20 attendants.

Gulf Coast Reads Author Visit - Ann Weisgarber
Ann Weisgarber, author of The Promise, the 2015 Gulf Coast Reads selection, will be speaking at Mitchell Library on October 8th from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Community Room downstairs in the main lobby. The Promise is the winner of the Walter Scott Prize for historical fiction and is a Spur Award Finalist for best historical fiction. It is set in Galveston during the 1900 storm and captures the drama, romance and flavor of this historic period in Texas history.

In conjunction with Gulf Coast Reads and this year's selected book, The Promise by Ann Weisgarber, Kingwood Branch Library and Friends of the Library Kingwood invite you to attend "Stories of the Great Storm of 1900" presented by Linda Macdonald. Galvestonian storyteller, Ms. Macdonald shares stories of the Great Storm of 1900 that she has collected over the years from family and others. She has has told these stories on PBS, the History Channel, Discovery Channel and others and will bring them to Kingwood Branch Library on Saturday, October 10th at 2:30 PM. Lone Star College-Kingwood’s library invites writers, students and employees to a presentation in writing and how to capture the complexities of a person in the written form. Peter Turchi, an author of six books and co-editor of three anthologies, will present on “Imagining Character from the Inside Out” on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 12:20 p.m. in Classroom Building A (CLA) room 114. Following the presentation, the audience will participate in a quick exercise that will be useful to fiction writers, students and others.

50+ Bus Trip to Dinner and Author Meet and Greet
Join us on October 22nd for a 50+ bus trip to celebrate Gulf Coast Reads. Gulf Coast Reads is an annual event inviting people along the upper Texas Gulf Coast to read or listen to the same story. This year’s selection is The Promise by Ann Weisgarber. Our trip will start with an evening of island adventure, beginning with dinner at Cafe Piquat, featuring delicious Cuban cuisine, followed by an author meet and greet with Ann Weisgarber at the Bellaire City Library. Galveston and the Great Storm of 1900-a Gulf Coast Reads Program
Andrew Coleman of the Galveston Historical Foundation presents an overview of Galveston, Texas and the 1900 hurricane which devastated the island and left more than 6,000 dead.
Andrew Coleman is a historian and native Galvestonian. After receiving his B.A. in History from Tulane University of Louisiana in 2013, he returned to Galveston to work for Galveston Historical Foundation, where he divides his time between the Preservation Conservation Services Department and Bishop’s Palace
